Punjab Government has announced that the first payment under “Mukh Mantri Mawan-Dhiyan Satkar Yojana” will be released on July 1, 2026 through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system and while around 52 lakh women are expected to receive financial assistance the government says the scheme will cover nearly 97% of state's female population ultimately meaning about 3% of women will not be eligible.
Under the scheme eligible women will receive financial support every month and women from General Category will receive ₹1,000 per month and women from Scheduled Caste (SC) category will receive ₹1,500 per month and since this is the first installment the government will release the amount for three months together. So, General Category beneficiaries will get ₹3,000 while SC Category beneficiaries will get ₹4,500. The money will be transferred directly into beneficiaries' bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.
The 3% of women are mainly those who fall under government's exclusion criteria and the following people are not eligible for the scheme:
Current government employees
Retired government employees
Income-tax payers
Members of Parliament (MPs)
Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs)
Wives of current ministers, MPs and MLAs
Women who do not meet basic eligibility conditions such as being a permanent resident of Punjab, being 18 years or older or having an Aadhaar card linked to their bank account will also not qualify unless they complete the required conditions.
According to Punjab Government around 52 lakh women aged 18 years and above are expected to benefit from the scheme adn the government says this covers nearly 97% of state's female population making it one of state's biggest welfare initiatives for women.
Punjab Government has clarified that women who are unable to complete their beneficiary card registration by July 1 will not lose their benefits and even if an eligible woman registers later including as late as October she will still receive the money from July 1 onwards and the pending amount will be paid retrospectively after her registration is completed.
To apply for the scheme, a woman must:
Be a permanent resident of Punjab
Be 18 years of age or older
Have an Aadhaar card linked with her bank account
Applicants need the following documents:
Aadhaar Card
Photocopy of bank passbook
Punjab residence proof such as Voter ID or Ration Card
Mobile number linked with Aadhaar
Permanent welfare initiative
Punjab Government has stated that Mukh Mantri Mawan-Dhiyan Satkar Yojana is a permanent welfare scheme and not a temporary program and a dedicated budget of ₹9,300 crore has been allocated for its implementation.
