Quami Insaaf Morcha to block toll collections from 12–2 pm as part of campaign seeking release of Sikh prisoners

Members of Quami Insaaf Morcha have announced that commuters will be allowed to cross Ladhowal toll plaza without paying toll for two hours on Tuesday.

The protest will take place from 12 noon to 2 pm.

The announcement was made after a meeting of morcha held on Monday and the protest is being organised as part of group's campaign demanding the release of Bandi Sikhs (Sikh prisoners). After the meeting morcha members spoke to media and shared details of their upcoming programmes and during the meeting different organisations were given responsibilities to ensure large participation in protest activities.

The members also discussed planned "rail roko" protest and the protest was earlier scheduled to be held at Rajpura on June 16 however the morcha decided to postpone it because of paddy transplantation season and now the rail roko protest will be held on July 4. According to the decision taken at the meeting trains will be stopped from 12 noon to 2 pm on that day and the morcha also reviewed preparations for a major mobilisation planned for August 15 and members described the planned gathering as an important stage of their movement.

According to the morcha, farmers, labourers and employees will take part in the mobilisation and Sikh organisations from Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir are also expected to join.

Morcha leaders said this effort is aimed at bringing together different Sikh groups on a common platform and they stated that mobilisation is being organised to raise their voice against what they described as oppression and arrogance of Central and state governments.

Further details regarding upcoming protests are expected to be shared by morcha in the coming weeks.
