Low visibility disrupts flights at Amritsar airport; International & domestic services affected

Thick layer of dense fog in Punjab has caused disruption at the Amritsar airport, with the possibility of flights getting delayed and even cancelled.

As the fog alert has been issued in the city, other services at the Amritsar airport have mainly faced delays or rescheduling rather than outright cancellations.

Current status at Amritsar airport

A few departing overseas and local flights from Amritsar scheduled to take off to places like Kuala Lumpur or Qatar - weren’t able to operate after 9 PM because of the dense fog layer in Amritsar and areas around.

So far this week, a Malaysia Airlines flight to Kuala Lumpur has reportedly been cancelled because of the dense fog spell of the year.

Meanwhile, other flights sit stuck on the tarmac, and wait until the weather gets better.

Operations under low visibility

The airport’s running on CAT‑III B gear, letting planes touch down safely when there is not much fog. Meanwhile the airport authorities stay vigilant to ensure the safety of the passengers.

Still, the setup can't handle take-offs when fog is this thick, so plenty of flights stay postponed or stuck. Passengers are advised not to travel during these foggy days as Punjab roads have also been witnessing a series of accidents and collisions because of zero visibility. In case it is unavoidable to travel then the passengers should take extra time in hand and should check the flight status at regular intervals so as to avoid last moment inconvenience.
