Mariton Hotel clash: “Marwah, his men used abusive language at our granddaughter’s b-day,” –Yash Dua

“My family was celebrating our 2-year-old granddaughter’s birthday at Mariton Hotel when Dr. Paramjit Marwah entered with five men,” says Yash Dua

Late last night, a violent clash erupted at Mariton Hotel, prompting police intervention and attracting widespread attention following years of ongoing disputes among the hotel’s partners. The confrontation allegedly involved co-owners Paramjit Singh Marwah and Yash Dua, escalating into a physical altercation that reportedly included hotel staff.

Owner, Paramjit Singh Marwah was allegedly forced to the ground and assaulted, during which his turban was reportedly removed.

The violent clash at Mariton Hotel occurred between Yash Dua’s family and Paramjit Marwah’s men. True Scoop spoke with Yash Dua for his account.

Co-owner of Mariton Hotel, Yash Dua, is reportedly hospitalized after sustaining a head injury during a violent clash that erupted late last night at the hotel. Dua, speaking to True Scoop, provided a detailed account of the incident and the long-standing business disputes that allegedly led to the confrontation.

According to Dua, his family was celebrating his two-year-old granddaughter’s birthday at the Galaxy Hall within the Mariton Hotel when Paramjit Singh Marwah, accompanied by five men, allegedly entered the venue. Dua claims that Marwah and his associates began shouting, using abusive language, and making violent gestures.

“They came in and started using abusive words, screaming, and making threatening gestures. Initially, we tried to calm the situation, and the men were sent downstairs,” Dua told True Scoop.

However, Dua says that tensions escalated after the men confronted his brother, leading to a full-blown physical clash. He further alleged that the Marwah group prevented female members of his family from leaving the hall. “You can watch the CCTV footage where my family members are pleading with folded hands, asking them to let us go,” Dua said.

Background of the ongoing business dispute

Dua said that the incident is part of an ongoing bigger dispute between the partners of Mariton Hotel, which has been a matter of news for quite some time. The hotel is owned and operated under the name Mariton Hoteliers Pvt. Ltd. and has multiple partners that own the hotel with the approximate shareholding structure:

Paramjit Singh Marwah & Gursimran Singh Marwah (Marwah brothers): 36%

Gautam Kukreja & Gaurav Kukreja (Kukreja brothers): 15%

Silent partners from Karpurthala: 29%

Marwah brothers and Yash Dua: 20%

The latest dispute reportedly began when the Marwah brothers purchased adjoining land near the hotel without consulting minority partners like Dua. According to him, the land included 40% government-owned property and had an outstanding electricity board bill of Rs. 5 crore. Construction had already started, and additional financial steps, including a proposed bank loan of Rs. 8.5 crore from Punjab National Bank, had been submitted without informing all partners. Dua claims that minority partners wrote to the bank to halt further disbursement, which escalated tensions further.

“This was a business matter that unfortunately turned personal,” Dua told True Scoop. “When the Marwah brothers brought the land and started construction without consensus, I objected. The disagreement should have remained professional, but it became personal.

Case status

No complaint has been lodged by the police regarding the incident.

The victim, Dua, has been admitted to a local hospital with a head injury. The role played by hotel staff in the conflict is also being investigated by local law enforcement.

The violent conflict has managed to capture the attention of the media, particularly in relation to not only the physical altercation but also business rivalry in relation to the Mariton Hotel’s management structure. It is noted that legal experts have indicated that such conflict could affect partnership governance in private entities.

The case is still under investigation as of now, and both parties are waiting for police intervention.
