Mohali DC Komal Mittal earns place among India’s Top 25 District Magistrates

Focus on grievance redressal, civic amenities, digital initiatives and anti-drug campaigns earns national recognition

Komal Mittal Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar (Mohali) has been ranked among top 25 District Magistrates in the country in Best District Magistrate Survey-2026 conducted by Fame India-Asia Post magazine and the survey assessed performance of administrative heads of around 800 districts across India. Officers were evaluated on various parameters including work methodology, public service, innovation, development initiatives and good governance and after an initial selection of 100 officers a detailed assessment placed Komal Mittal among top 25 district officials in country.

Komal Mittal is a 2014-batch IAS officer and currently heads Mohali district administration and during her tenure the district administration has focused on development, public welfare, transparency and improving government services for citizens. In Mohali which is witnessing rapid urban growth she has given priority to quick resolution of public grievances and better service delivery and special emphasis has been placed on strengthening public grievance redressal system. Efforts have also been made to improve basic civic amenities, traffic management, environmental conservation and public services. Her administrative approach has focused on transparency and greater public participation. These efforts have received appreciation at different levels.

Komal Mittal has also played an important role in campaigns against drug abuse and she launched awareness drives involving educational institutions and social organisations to spread awareness among young people and she has stated that a long-term solution to drug problem can be achieved by providing positive opportunities and proper guidance to the youth. Before her posting in Mohali she served as Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Mukerian Additional Commissioner of Amritsar Municipal Corporation, Additional Secretary in Punjab Government’s Department of Food and Civil Supplies and Deputy Commissioner of Hoshiarpur.

During her tenure in Hoshiarpur Punjab’s first digital library was established and several environmental conservation campaigns were also promoted and the district received “Best Green District” award. Work was also carried out in the fields of crop diversification, women’s empowerment and welfare of differently-abled youth and according to survey results Komal Mittal secured a total of 823 points. Her evaluation included scores for a development-oriented mindset (89), public relations and communication skills (86), interpersonal skills (86), administrative capability (80), governance, foresight and innovation (78), accountable work style (80), decision-making ability (83), crisis management (81), sensitivity and seriousness (81) and overall competence (79).

Reacting to the achievement Komal Mittal said that the honour belongs to entire Mohali district administration team as well as the teams and residents of the places where she has previously served. She said that efforts towards public service and development will continue in the future.
