In a bid to reduce noise pollution and maintain public order, the Additional District Magistrate of Jalandhar, Amninder Kaur, has issued strict directives under the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000, and Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023. These orders are aimed at controlling excessive noise levels in the city and ensuring a peaceful environment for residents.
The use of loudspeakers at marriage palaces, public places, and religious sites has been restricted to a maximum noise level of 10 decibels. This measure is designed to prevent disturbance to the surrounding areas and maintain a serene environment. A complete ban has been imposed on the use of pressure horns for all types of vehicles, including buses, cars, and motorcycles. This move is expected to significantly reduce noise pollution caused by vehicular traffic.
Organizers and individuals planning to use loudspeakers at public places and marriage palaces are required to obtain prior permission from the authorities. The permitted time for loudspeaker use has been fixed from 6 AM to 10 PM. This will help in ensuring that noise levels are kept within acceptable limits during late-night events.
These directives will remain in effect until November 22, 2025. The authorities have warned that strict action will be taken against those found violating these orders. The move is seen as a proactive step towards maintaining public safety and reducing noise pollution in the city.
The local administration has urged citizens to cooperate with the authorities in implementing these directives. Residents are encouraged to report any violations or complaints regarding excessive noise to the local authorities, who will take prompt action to address the issue.
