‘Pakistan spy’ held in Pathankot: CCTV on NH44 used to share live army movement

Pathankot man accused of installing cameras to track Army convoys, sending feeds abroad for Rs 40,000

Pathankot Police has arrested one person in a grave spying case where CCTV cameras were allegedly used to monitor the movement of Indian Army and paramilitary forces on busy Jammu highway route and according to a press note issued by police the action was taken on the instructions of Punjab Government and Director General of Police, Punjab. The police said this operation is part of ongoing efforts to stop anti-national activities in region.

Use of CCTV cameras

The arrested accused has been identified as Baljit Singh alias Betu who is the son of Puran Singh a resident of village Chak Dhariwal in Pathankot district and police said he and some of his associates were allegedly working with anti-national elements and had installed CCTV cameras at a shop located near bridge number 4 and 5 in Sujanpur area and this location is on the side of highway on National Highway 44 (India) which is an important route used by security forces moving towards border areas.

Links with Pakistan

Police said the CCTV camera was not used for normal shop security but instead it was allegedly connected with an internet-based system and the live feed was being sent to handlers based outside India reportedly linked with Pakistan intelligence agencies and through this setup movement and activities of Army and paramilitary forces were being tracked and shared.

Officials described this as a serious threat to the sovereignty, integrity and security of India.

Received Rs. 40,000 for installation & operation

A case has been registered at Sujanpur Police Station under multiple sections including Section 61, 111, 113(3), 152 of BNS and Section 3 of the Official Secrets Act, 1923 and the case number mentioned is 94, dated 21-05-2026 and during investigation the arrested accused Baljit Singh reportedly confessed that CCTV setup was installed in January 2026 along with his associates. Police said he was directed by an unknown person based in Dubai and it is also claimed that he received around Rs. 40,000 for installing and operating this surveillance system.

More arrests expected

The police further said that after noticing increased security checks and CASO (Cordon and Search Operations) in area the accused had removed the CCTV camera some time ago and hidden it inside the shop however the police team later recovered the CCTV camera along with an air fiber modem during the investigation and following this the officials said that more people may be involved in this network and at present Baljit Singh has been arrested and his associates are being identified and questioned. Police also said that further arrests are expected as the investigation continues.

A clear message spent

Pathankot Police said that this action sends a clear message that any activity against nation’s security will not be tolerated and added that police are fully alert and strict action will continue against anyone involved in such illegal or suspicious activities and added that intelligence-based operations helped in quickly tracing and stopping alleged spying activity before it could cause further damage.

The investigation in this case is still ongoing and more details are expected to come out in the coming days and for now Pathankot police have assured that strict surveillance and investigation will continue to ensure that no anti-national element can operate in region.
