Serious allegations of police brutality have surfaced from the Bhargav Camp area of Jalandhar, where a woman has accused a police officer of assault during a late-night operation. The entire incident was captured on CCTV and has triggered public outrage after the footage began circulating on social media.
According to the woman, identified as Mamta, police came to her house to handle a family dispute involving her son and daughter-in-law and explains that the situation suddenly turned violent and got out of hand. Mamta alleges that an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) beat her sons and claims that when she tried to speak to him to calm the situation down, the officer dragged her by her hair and pulled her out onto the street, manhandling her.
In the CCTV video that has been circulating online on social media, police can be seen confronting and hitting some young men, while the woman is also seen trying to intervene and asking the police to stop.
The woman also claims that there was no female police officer present at the time of the incidnet. Talking further about the incident she mentions how she kept requesting the police to handle the matter without using violence, however she claims her requests were ignored and left unheard.
Allegedly, the dispute is linked to a long-running family issue between her son and daughter-in-law, who are currently living separately. As per reports, the daughter-in-law’s family had reportedly filed a complaint with the police which led to police action.
ADCP Rakesh Yadav talking about the incident shares that the police team had gone to the location after receiving a complaint related to a domestic dispute between a husband and wife over their child and explains that ACP is also looking into the matter in detail to understand how the situation escalated to such extent.
The ADCP assures that a full investigation is currently underway and statements from both sides will be recorded before reaching at any conclusion.
