Residents across several districts of Punjab are likely to face long power cuts over the next few days even as heat continues to increase and according to a notice issued by Punjab State Power Corporation Limited electricity supply will remain disrupted till April 26 in major cities like Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Bathinda and Patiala.
Officials said these cuts are happening because work is being carried out to improve and upgrade the electricity system and due to this people in affected areas may face power cuts of around 8 to 10 hours every day and at the same time the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for heatwave conditions for the next three days with the temperatures in most parts of the state are expected to touch around 40 degrees Celsius which could make the situation more uncomfortable and increase the demand for electricity.
