Punjab is likely to face intense heat over the next few days with temperatures expected to rise sharply according to the Meteorological Department and talking about the current situation Surinder Paul Director and Head of the Meteorological Centre in Chandigarh said that the heat will increase further over the next 3 to 4 days and many areas are expected to record temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius while in some places the temperature is likely to touch 44 degrees.

In Punjab, Bathinda has already recorded a temperature of about 41 degrees Celsius showing an early sign of the rising heat and with this the department has warned that heatwave conditions are likely to develop across both Punjab over the next 4 to 5 days and because of this a Yellow Alert has been issued for several areas which means people should stay aware and take care.

At the same time an Orange Alert has also been issued for some districts which indicates a more serious situation where extra precautions are needed.

Southwestern districts worst hit  

The heat is expected to be the strongest between 12 noon and 3 PM when stepping outside can be risky and the southwestern districts of Punjab are likely to be the worst affected and these include Bathinda, Fazilka, Ferozepur, Patiala and Sangrur where temperatures may stay very high during the day.

Advisory issued

Weather officials have advised people to avoid going out during peak afternoon hours unless necessary and have instructed public that staying hydrated, wearing light clothes and keeping indoors as much as possible can help reduce the risk of heat-related illness.

The Meteorological Department is closely monitoring the situation and may update alerts depending on how the weather changes in the coming days.
