PU students protest after RSS leader invited at program dedicated to Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji

Around 100 students have been detained by the police following this incident

A clash erupted at Punjab University over the appointment of an RSS official as the chief guest at a program dedicated to Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, following which students affiliated to Sath Party protested and raised slogans.

Keeping the situation in view, the university administration informed the police, who arrived on the scene immediately and detained the protesting students. A scuffle was reported among the police and students as well, where reportedly several students were dragged by the police. As per the statement made by Sath Party, several students lost their turbans during this clash and allegedly, police seized kirpan from one of the protesting student.

RSS is anti-Sikh: Sath Party member

Sukhman Singh, a Sath Party member says that RSS is anti-Sikh. Talking further he claims that a protest had been announced on March 9 because PU administration had organized a program dedicated to Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji where a RSS leader was invited as a chief guest.

It is being said that an appeal was made to the PU administration to not have an RSS official as the chief guest at a lecture on Sikh history. A letter was also submitted to the Vice Chancellor, stating that RSS was anti-Sikh.

Police detains around 100 students

Around 100 students have been detained by the police following this incident, and allegedly a kirpan of student named Arshdeep Singh has also been confiscated.
