January 2026 gives Punjab the fewest bank holidays and only one official gazette holiday on Republic Day. Although months like October and November have many festival holidays, January is not so packed and mostly has weekend holidays.
Banks in Punjab will remain closed on these days, as per the RBI circulars:
-January 10 (Saturday): Second Saturday off.
- Saturday, January 24 - Fourth Saturday off.
January 26 Monday: Republic Day, only national gazette holiday
Sundays like the 11th and 25th of January are regular weekly holidays. There are no other state events, like Lohri, which act as bank holidays.
January has the least number of holidays. There are only three bank holidays in January for closure, which is quite less as compared to others. For example, there are a total of six holidays in October owing to Dussehra and Diwali celebrations, while five holidays in March fall due to Holi and other festivals. There are also five holidays in November month surrounding Guru Nanak Jayanti. The citizens in Punjab can combine Republic Day with the weekend preceding it, thereby getting a four-day holiday starting from January 24 and ending on January 27.
