Punjab braces for heavy rains; IMD issues orange alert for These districts

According to the IMD weather report, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Bathinda and areas around are expected to receive rainfall in the coming days.

According to the IMD weather forecast, the initial heavy rain in a retreating monsoon is going to strike Punjab in the coming days. Punjab is going to receive heavy rain and this heavy rain is likely to result in a flood alert. The Indian Meteorological Department has already put out an orange alert in certain districts of Punjab. Side by side, there are indications of heavy rain in major cities such as Amritsar, Ludhiana, and Bathinda.

Rainfall is expected in these areas

According to the weather forecast from IMD, Orange alerts have been given in the Punjab areas of Amritsar, Ludhiana, Bathinda, Patiala, Jalandhar, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, and other areas of Punjab. The floodings are in areas surrounding the Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi Rivers. The areas that would be affected in this circumstance, which might see flooding in the villages, include Gurdaspur, Path Rainfall Prediction According to the weather alert from IMD, Amritsar will see 13.4mm, Ludhiana will see 10-16mm, and Bathinda will see a rainfall of up to 15.7mm.

Bathinda  15.7mm

Patiala  14.0mm

These statistics denote an exceedance from the normal January figures usually seen in the past months to a excess rainfall in certain areas. 

Warnings and consequences

IMD predicts very heavy rain, along with a chance of thunderstorms, in the coming 24 hours, which might cause a disruption in road traffic from waterlogged roads. The latest issue with waterlogged roads and traffic disruption is observed in Jalandhar today. The rescue team from NDRF, SDRF, & Army is prepared in flood-hit areas. Schools might be shut, & agriculture might be under threat in Malwa & Doaba region.

Officials issue high alert in 13 districts, distributing relief among the affected families. Ministers visit the places, establishing relief camps including medical assistance. Citizens urged to monitor local announcements for their own safety.
