

Jalandhar is set for a massive infrastructure overhaul in 2026, with sports hubs, railway upgrades, expressways, and religious corridors progressing rapidly as per official announcements and reports. Here’s a list of 7 gigantic projects that are set to modify the Jalandhar city.
The ₹77.77 crore Burlton Park Sports Hub commonly referred to as the Burlton Park or simply ‘Burton Park’ in Jalandhar started construction in September 2025 with the aim of completing the facility by August 2026. About 25% of the construction process is complete. The first floor of the multipurpose stadium and the hockey pavilion roofing are completed. Roofing for the kabaddi stadium and shopping complex will begin in January. Weightlifting and judo halls are already under construction.
Equipment and human resources have been scaled up for the completion of the deadline with the development of a hub with modern tracks for outdoor games, badminton and table tennis courts, tennis grounds, cycling/jogging tracks, improved roads, sewerage systems, and water supply. SDO Taranpreet Singh has confirmed the same to deliver it to the sportsmen by August.
The existing facilities are also upgraded, such as the transformation of Hansraj Stadium into a basketball center, complete with table tennis and wrestling courts (upgradation of Punjab's largest wrestling hall includes new mats, drainage, and exercise equipment).
Surjit Hockey Stadium renovation (₹2.50 crore) includes upgraded stands, dugouts, changing rooms, floodlights, washrooms, and a meeting area.
The table tennis hall fits 12 tables with anti-glare lighting, ventilation, synthetic flooring, and soundproofing for international events. The basketball court adds changing rooms, sun shades, night lighting, renovated galleries, and better ventilation. Sports College Boys' Hostel (₹1.13 crore) fixes dampness, wiring, and amenities with new beds, cupboards, doors, washrooms, and tiles.
Four low-height underbridges (LHUs) address traffic jams, including Dhannowali (highway-linked hotspot) opening soon. Others at Kishangarh-Alawalpur Road (rural-urban link), Railway Vihar Colony (resident demand), and Adampur-Hoshiarpur Highway underpass promote zero crossings for safety and faster trains.
Jalandhar will also get a world-class Jalandhar Cantt station under the Amrit Bharat Scheme. The ₹93 crore project of Jalandhar Cantt Railway Station started in 2022 and till the date today in 2026, the project has already met 95% completion. The renovation work at the station will be completely done by February-March 2026. It is claimed that the station after its completion will features airport-like AC waiting halls, escalators/elevators, cafeteria, retail, and parking, serving 8,000 daily passengers from 140 trains.
Kang Sahibu section of Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway unlocks soon, cutting Delhi-Katra/Jalandhar-Jammu times, easing city traffic, boosting industry, and enhancing safety with dividers.
Municipal Corporation's proposal (approved locally, awaiting central nod) develops a corridor linking Devi Talab, Baba Balak Nath (Sukka Talab), Annapurna, Sati Vrinda Devi, Hanuman, Brahmakund temples, plus Preet Nagar Gurudwara and Sodhal area. Covers Railway Station to Mai Heeran Gate, Adda Hoshiarpur-Tanda, Patel Chowk, Pathankot Bypass-Doaba Chowk, Kishanpura Road.
Includes beautified roads/streets, signboards, security, parking, traffic systems. Model Town Market gets road upgrades, multi-storey parking (stalled 10 years), greenery, and entertainment, boosting tourism, jobs, linking to Vaishno Devi-Amritsar-Chintpurni circuits. NHAI's two ramps (started Sept 2025) on Amritsar-Jalandhar-Ludhiana highway near LPU and Surya Enclave (₹8 crore total) connect to flyovers, fixing black spots. This development project after completion is poised to benefit the areas of Dhannowali, Rama Mandi, Paragpur, Cantt, Suchi Pind, Chaugitti, Ladhewali, Sanjay Gandhi Nagar, Focal Point, Kalia Colony, Verka by-pass, Tur Enclave and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Colony.
These projects after meeting their completion dates shall position Jalandhar as Punjab's sports, connectivity, and heritage hub.
