The festive month of October is already here. But this time, in 2025 October is witnessing a notable drop in the number of government holidays in Punjab. Known for being one of the most festive months in the Indian calendar, October usually brings multiple public holidays. However, in 2025, several major festivals are either falling on weekends therefore leading to less holidays.
According to the Punjab Government’s official holiday list, there are only four government holidays in October 2025: The four holidays are:
2nd October (Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra)
7th October (Valmiki Jayanti)
20th October (Diwali)
22nd October (Vishwakarma Day)
October 8- Shri Guru Ramdas Ji Prakash Parv (Reserved Holiday)
October 10- Karwa Chauth (Reserve Holiday)
October 16- Birthday of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur
October 22- Govardhan Puja (Reserved Holiday)
October 23: Guru Gaddu Duwak Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji (Reserve Holiday)
October 28- Chhath Puja (Reserve Holiday)
According to the government order, the said leave will not be gazetted but will be reserved. That is, government offices, schools and colleges will remain open on this day as usual. However, employees will be able to avail this reserve leave where required or permitted by the management.
