In a massive development, the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday has granted interim relief to Rajan Arora, son of jailed Jalandhar Central MLA Raman Arora, in the ongoing corruption case.
High Court stayed Rajan Arora's arrest until September 24, instructing him to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation.
This development comes at a time when the Punjab Vigilance Bureau had issued a Lookout Circular (LOC) against Rajan Arora amid strong suspicions that he had fled to Dubai to avoid arrest.
Vigilance officials had anticipated that he could be apprehended upon return, but the High Court’s order has temporarily protected him from detention.
As per court directions, Rajan Arora is now obligated to join the investigation. Vigilance Bureau officials had earlier revealed that Rajan had been evading authorities and was believed to be hiding abroad. With the LOC active, his return could have resulted in immediate arrest. Now, with court's order, Raja Arora's arrest.
For the unversed, Raman Arora was arrested on May 23 from Jalandhar by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau in connection with a corruption and fraud case.
Arora is accused of misusing his official position to amass illicit wealth and engaging in financial irregularities. Following his arrest, he was presented in court and sent to police remand for questioning. He is presently lodged in jail.
