A gym associated with Punjabi singer Guru Randhawa came under attack in Delhi's Paschim Vihar area early on Thursday and according to police unidentified men discharged multiple rounds outside the fitness centre before fleeing the spot luckily no injuries were reported in the incident.
Police said the incident took place at around 4 am outside 24 Hs Fitness gym and investigators stated that two men arrived on a motorcycle and discharged several rounds before escaping and preliminary findings suggest that at least seven rounds were discharged during attack.
The matter came to light around 5.15 am when members of gym staff arrived at premises and noticed signs of attack and they immediately informed police following which officers reached the spot and began an investigation. Soon after the incident a social media message allegedly issued by Anil Pandit faction of Lawrence Bishnoi gang surfaced online and the message claimed responsibility for the attack and reportedly mentioned Guru Randhawa's growing proximity to Bollywood actor Salman Khan as reason behind it however police said authenticity of the social media post is yet to be verified. Officials stated that all possible angles are being examined as part of investigation ans it includes extortion, organised crime links and personal rivalry.
Guru Randhawa is associated with fitness centre as its owner and promoter and the incident has once again drawn attention to Lawrence Bishnoi gang which has previously issued threats to Salman Khan and people linked to him. Following the attack forensic teams visited the scene and collected evidence and investigators are also examining CCTV footage from nearby areas to identify suspects and track their movements before and after incident. Police are working to determine exact sequence of events and establish identity of those involved and a case has been registered in connection with the matter. Multiple police teams have been formed to trace and arrest accused an d officials said efforts are underway to identify attackers and verify claims made in the said social media message.
The investigation is currently ongoing.
