Punjabi and Bollywood singer Master Salim has issued a strong and emotional appeal for the harshest punishment, including the death penalty, for the accused in the rape and murder of a 13-year-old girl in Jalandhar’s West area. He has urged both the Punjab government and the central government to ensure exemplary action so that such a crime is never repeated in society.

- Master Salim, a resident of Shahkot, shared an emotional video on Instagram, saying that just thinking about the 13-year-old victim makes his “throat choke” and “soul tremble.”
- He appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Punjab government, the central government, MLAs, MPs, lawyers and police officers to intervene and ensure a punishment that “creates history” so no one dares to commit such a crime again.
- The singer said those who attempt to rape and then murder an innocent child should receive the death penalty and, in his view, deserve to be “killed on the spot,” though he stressed that justice must ultimately be delivered under the law of the land.
- He questioned whether girls are safe in Punjab and urged everyone, from politicians to police and judiciary, to unite to send the accused to the gallows and deliver justice to the grieving family
- The accused, identified as Harminder Singh alias Rimpy, has been remanded to nine days of police custody in connection with the alleged sexual assault and murder of the 13-year-old girl in Jalandhar.
- Public anger is rising across sectors, with artists and religious groups also expressing solidarity with the victim’s family and demanding swift and strict action against the perpetrator.
