THIS village in Amritsar bans same-village marriages; warns of social boycott

The panchayat has also said that if a boy and girl run away to get married not just the couple but their entire family could be boycotted by the village

The panchayat of Adliwala village in Amritsar has passed a resolution laying down strict social rules for residents and according to the decision boys and girls from the same village are not allowed to marry each other and if any couple goes against this and gets married within the village they may face social boycott.

Boycott of entire family threatened

The panchayat has also said that if a boy and girl run away to get married not just the couple but their entire family could be boycotted by the village.

In another point the resolution states that anyone who goes to the police station to help drug addicts may also face social boycott.

Officials have not yet made any public statement on the legality of such resolutions.
