The horrific case of Jalandhar West has left everyone shocked and angered. A 13-year-old girl's body was found in neighbour's bathroom in Paras Estate, situated near Leather Complex in Jalandhar West on Saturday night. It had sparked a massive uproar as the Police official who went inside the house to search for the body came out and said that the girl was not inside. However, later, the girl's body was found in the bathroom of the same house.
Former Punjab Chief Minister Charajit Singh Channi on Monday night visited Jalandhar West victim's family and warned that if demands are not met then he along with Congress party will launch an agitation that will include road blockades and shutdown of shops
Addressing the media, Channi said-
"A very sad incident has taken place. A minor girl has been r@ped and murdered. The Police have tried their best to hush up the issue. Police officials have also threatened the family members not to go against them. In fact, Police officials remained inside the house (the accused house) for at least 45 minutes but after coming outside they claimed that the girl was not inside. It was despite the fact that the mother of the girl saw her going into the house in CCTV footage and never coming out."
"It was because of the victim's mother that a case was filed. Why the Police was not ready to file a complaint? Why the Police said that they did not find the body after searching the house for 45 minutes? We need answers. We want those officers who went inside the house and said that they could not find the body should be dismissed. I warn the people as well as the government: if the police officers are not dismissed, we will start an agitation."
Former CM Channi has demanded that Punjab DGP and Jalandhar CP (Commissioner of Police) take action against the policemen who allegedly tried to hush up the case. They should be immediately dismissed and an FIR should be filed against them.
He further clarified that if action is not taken, he will start an agitation and hence, Jalandhar will be closed, roads will be blocked, and shops will be shut.
