A grenade blast took place outside the Punjab BJP office in Sector 37, Chandigarh and now a CCTV footage has become the biggest clue in the case helping police understand what exactly happened.
The blast took place around 5:00 PM on April 1 and the explosion damaged nearby vehicles, broke windows and left marks on walls but luckily no casualties have been reported so far.
Police have found multiple CCTV clips and together they show the full sequence of the attack in a very clear way:
Before the blast
In one video two suspects can be seen standing outside another office close to the BJP office and this was just a few minutes before the explosion and they appear to be waiting and watching the area.
During the attack
In earlier footage one person is seen throwing a grenade towards the BJP office.
After the blast
Another video shows the same two suspects running across the road immediately after the explosion and a separate clip also shows two people escaping on a motorcycle who are believed to be the attackers.
This CCTV footage clearly shows how the attackers came, carried out the blast and escaped within minutes.
Sources say a GHD2P hand grenade was used in the attack and this type of grenade is very dangerous as it can seriously harm people within 5 to 10 metres and its small pieces (fragments) can travel up to 20 to 25 metres causing injuries even at a distance.
Police and security agencies have started a full investigation into the matter and they are closely studying the CCTV footage to identify the suspects and track their movement and the entire area was sealed after the blast and teams are working to find out where the attackers came from and where they went after escaping.
A social media post has surfaced in which Khalistani terrorist Sukhjinder Singh Babbar has claimed responsibility for the attack and officials have not yet confirmed the authenticity of this claim and are verifying it as part of the investigation.
