At least five schools of Chandigarh have received bomb threat emails on Wednesday. As per reports, the threats were received via email and it immediately prompted the security agencies to spring into action and got into high alert mode. The schools that have received this threatening email include: St Kabir, Vivek High, Bhavan Vidyalaya, Sacred Heart, Chitkara School, besides some other government schools.
Following the threat emails, most of the schools, private and government included, declared a holiday and all the children were sent home. The Chandigarh SSP, bomb squad, and other security agencies arrived at the scene and initiated a probe into the matter. As of now the school premises are being thoroughly searched. Reports suggest that no suspicious objects have been found in any of the schools yet.
Police are currently working to identify the person who is behind sending these threatening emails and are investigating the veracity of the threats. Security has been beefed up in the areas that surround the schools as a precautionary measure. The police officials have informed that the situation is completely under control and as of now and an appeal has been made to the public to not pay any uncalled-for attention to such rumors and maintain calm.
