

Zirakpur-Chandigarh Highway on Monday witnessed a massive traffic jam. Traffic jam at Zirakpur-Chandigarh Highway is the result of the PU protest. .
The seriousness of the PU Protest can be understood by the fact that a scuffle broke out between the Police officials and student during the PU protest in Chandigarh on Monday.
Protesting students broke the barricades at Gate No. 1 in front of the PGI after a scuffle broke out with the police. Chandigarh SSP Kanwardeep Kaur climbed the gate to stop them, but the students refused.
Due to the strict police enforcement and blockade, long queues of vehicles were seen on the highway since morning.
In view of the PU protest, Chandigarh, Haryana, and Punjab police imposed a strict blockade on all roads leading to the university for security reasons.
As last reported, due to this blockade, vehicular traffic on the main National Highway (NH-152A) from Zirakpur to Chandigarh was halted. Office-goers, school and college students, and candidates going to appear for exams were stuck in the traffic jam.
Many people faced delays of 1-2 hours in reaching their destinations. According to the police administration, additional forces have been deployed to manage the traffic jam. Vehicles are being diverted to routes leading to Zirakpur, Maulijagra, and Hallomajra to ease pressure on the highway.
Chandigarh Traffic Police also issued an advisory that reads, "Keeping in view the law & order arrangement the following road stretches locations has been temporarily closed:-
➤The road from Sector 51/52 light point to Mattaur Barrier (Himalaya Marg)
➤ The road from Mattaur Barrier towards Sec. 51/52 Light Point Chd.
➤ The road from Sector 50/51 small chowk till UT Boundary back side Burail Jail.
➤The road from fountain chowk towards Diplast Chowk.
➤The road from furniture market chowk towards Madanpur Chowk."
