Actor and social media personality Uorfi Javed has claimed that she was allegedly cheated by a former outfit designer, revealing that she unknowingly paid several lakhs for costumes that were worth only a fraction of the amount quoted. Sharing her experience through a fiery Instagram reel, Uorfi said the incident taught her a hard lesson about trust and handling finances.
Not mindful about finances
In the video, Uorfi explained that during the early days of her career, she had just started earning well and was not mindful about the money she was spending. According to her, the designer would quote extremely high prices for materials used in her outfits, and she would pay the amount without questioning it.
Lakhs paid for the dresses
Recalling specific instances, Uorfi said she paid ₹1–2 lakh for gemstone dresses, around ₹2 lakh for a wooden corset, and another ₹2 lakh for just 2 kilograms of decorative stones used in an outfit. It was only after her sisters questioned the unusually high costs that the family decided to verify the prices at a local market.
The dresses were only a fraction of the amount
To her shock, Uorfi claimed they discovered that the same materials were available for only ₹1,000 to ₹2,000, exposing what she described as a massive overcharge. She said the revelation left her feeling betrayed, especially because she had placed complete trust in the designer.
Not limited to professional work only
Uorfi further alleged that her support for the designer went far beyond professional work. She claimed she had gifted the designer and her children mobile phones and even bought her a scooty to help her financially. Despite extending such support, Uorfi said she was disappointed to learn that the designer had allegedly been charging her excessive amounts.
Confrontation about the scam
When she confronted the designer about the inflated bills, Uorfi claimed the response was that since the designer was working on the outfits, she deserved to keep her "cut." While Uorfi acknowledged that designers are entitled to earn a commission, she alleged that the markup in her case was as high as 200 percent, which she felt was completely unfair.
Stopped working with her
The actor said the incident marked the end of their professional association, and she decided to stop working with the designer altogether. Uorfi added that the experience taught her to be more careful with money and always verify costs before making large payments.
While the designer has not publicly responded to Uorfi's allegations, the video has sparked widespread discussion online about transparency in professional relationships and the importance of financial awareness, even for celebrities.
