Canada's immigration authorities have ordered the deportation of an alleged associate of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The deportation order, issued on July 11, was made public by Canadian police on July 29. According to police, the accused has been identified as Jashandeep Singh, who is alleged to have hidden weapons used in the May 19, 2025, shooting at Kapil Sharma's Kap's Café in Surrey, British Columbia.
Identification of the accused
Originally from Punjab, Jashandeep Singh travelled to Canada in 2022 on a student visa. During questioning, he reportedly admitted that his father had taken loans to send him abroad for a better future and expressed regret over his actions. The Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) ruled him inadmissible to Canada due to his alleged links with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and ordered his deportation.
Alleges on the accused
Canadian police described Jashandeep as a low-level operative of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang based in Edmonton. Investigators allege that he worked under Arshdeep Singh, a mid-level gang operative who was deported from Canada earlier this year. Police claim Arshdeep reported to Goldy Brar, who is alleged to be the Bishnoi syndicate's chief handler in North America.
Video Evidence Allegedly Shows Him Holding Handgun
During the hearing, an officer from the Edmonton Police Service testified that investigators identified Jashandeep through videos recovered from a seized mobile phone. In one of the videos, he was allegedly seen holding a handgun that investigators believe was used in the May 19 extortion-related shooting in Surrey.
The footage reportedly shows Jashandeep pointing the handgun at another person's head. Investigators claimed that the same weapon was later used in a separate shooting incident in Edmonton just hours later. Police further alleged that Jashandeep hid the firearm to destroy evidence. Another weapon was later recovered from his residence during the investigation.
Jashandeep Claims Video Was Taken at Friend's Birthday Party
Before the tribunal, Jashandeep denied being a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and rejected allegations that he concealed weapons. He claimed the video was recorded during his friend Arshdeep Singh's birthday party, where he had consumed cannabis edibles and was intoxicated.
According to Jashandeep, he picked up the handgun and pointed it at another person only as a joke. However, the Immigration and Refugee Board rejected his explanation, stating that his testimony contained several contradictions and that he was not a credible witness.
Action Follows International Crackdown
The deportation comes amid a broader international crackdown under Operation Hard Ball, a joint operation involving law enforcement agencies from Canada, the United States, and Europe. The operation targets Lawrence Bishnoi, Goldy Brar, and other alleged gang leaders facing serious racketeering allegations.
Authorities have accused the network of international extortion, contract killings, and conspiracies to carry out political assassinations. The investigation also references the 2023 killing of Canadian Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, although Canadian authorities have clarified that the Nijjar murder remains a separate investigation.
Lawrence Bishnoi, currently lodged in Sabarmati Central Jail in Gujarat, and his alleged associate Goldy Brar are accused of operating an extortion network through WhatsApp, using students and workers in Canada to carry out shootings and arson attacks targeting business owners.
Expressed Regret Before Tribunal
During the hearing, Jashandeep expressed remorse for his actions. He told the tribunal that his parents had borrowed money to send him to Canada in the hope of providing him with a better future.
He said that after watching the videos himself, he questioned what he had become and realised he had let his family down. Jashandeep appealed for another chance, saying he did not want to shatter his parents' dreams. However, despite his emotional plea, the Immigration and Refugee Board upheld the deportation order, clearing the way for his return to India.
