Punjabi singer Resham Singh Anmol has claimed that his new Defender suddenly broke down while he was driving. The vehicle had undergone only its first service. When it was sent to the company service centre, he was reportedly told that the fuel pump had completely failed due to poor-quality petrol.
Anmol said he has stopped using regular E20 petrol. "I have visited six to seven fuel stations, but I couldn't find high-speed petrol like XP95 or XP100. The staff at the pumps told me they simply don't have it," he said.
He urged the government to release an official list of fuel stations that supply premium petrol. "This is not just my problem. Many other people are facing the same issue," he added.
Brand-new car stopped on the road
Sharing a video, Anmol said, "Sat Sri Akal, friends. My car is brand new and has had only one service. It suddenly stopped while I was driving. I contacted the company, and they said there have been issues with fuel lately and asked me to get the vehicle checked. After inspection, they told me the fuel pump had failed and needed to be replaced. They also mentioned that the problem was related to the fuel."
Stopped using regular petrol
Anmol said that around 70% of the fuel he had used was XP95 high-speed petrol. "After the fuel pump failed, I completely stopped filling regular petrol. Now, whenever I ask for XP100 or even XP95 at fuel stations, they tell me it isn't available."
Government should release a list of fuel stations
The singer appealed to the government to publish a list of petrol pumps where quality premium fuel is available. "I have visited six or seven fuel stations, but none had XP95 or XP100. People should know where they can safely refuel."
Many others are facing the same issue
Anmol said the company informed him that several other customers had reported similar complaints. He appealed to government authorities and anyone who could help to address the issue, saying many vehicle owners are facing inconvenience due to the unavailability of quality fuel.
E20 petrol mandatory from April 1
The Central Government made the sale of E20 petrol mandatory across India from April 1. According to the Ministry of Petroleum's notification, oil marketing companies are now required to supply petrol blended with 20% ethanol in all states and Union Territories.
Although E20 petrol had already been introduced in several parts of the country in 2023 on an optional basis, the government has now fully implemented the policy after advancing its ethanol blending target from 2030 to 2025-26.
