

The bollywood legend Raj Kapoor set up RK Films in 1948 and started constructing RK Studios in Chembur in the 50s. It is often said that the studios was not considered as just his workplace but a “temple” from which the man behind classics like Awaara and Shree 420 drew his fame.
Now in a recent developments, several reports cite that Ranbir Kapoor is planning to revive the studio after his father Rishi Kapoor sold the studio in 2019.
In 2019 Rishi Kapoor announced his family’s decision to sell RK Studios in Chembur, established by his late father Raj Kapoor. The iconic studio finally changes hand with Godrej Properties Ltd buying it for an undisclosed amount.
For those who are unversed, Aag became first movie under RK banner. Now Ranbir Kapoor is to relaunch RK Studios with his directorial debut. In order to re-invigorate the Mumbai film industry's creative landscape and to bring further the legacy, Kapoor will step into the director's role for the first time, working alongside talents such as Deepika Padukone and Ayan Mukerji.
Earlier, Ranbir Kapoor had a virtual interaction session with his fans where he spoke about his wish to direct a movie. He said, "I am dying to direct a movie. I have actually started a writer's room recently, and I am trying to inspire myself with the 2 ideas I have been starting to work on but it's definitely on my to-do list in the next couple of years."
