The train travellers across India are eagerly waiting for the operations of the Vande Bharat sleeper train, as the trains are specially designed to make the long-distance travel comfortable for passengers. Expectedly, these trains were scheduled to run on the train soon, but unfortunately, their operations have not started yet.
However, recently, the update regarding the status of Vande Bharat Express sleeper trains was provided by the Railway Minister of India, Ashwini Vaishnaw, during the recent Parliament session. The Minister answered a question and updated everyone about how far the work on these trains has reached. According to the Minister, the trains have been built with automatic doors, very comfortable berths, onboard wifi, and modern facilities, similar to airplanes.
He further explained that the Railway ministry has been seeing the Vande Bharat Express trains as India's modern semi-high-speed trains. The ministry has been planning to offer world-class features and advanced safety facilities, offering a calm, smooth, and comfortable travel experience.
While answering the curiosity of the people about the commencement of the train services across the nation, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the first rake of the Vande Bharat sleeper train is about to start soon. It is to be noted that the Minister presented a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on Friday, July 25, 2025.
He furthermore mentioned that the first prototype of the Vande Bharat sleeper train has been constructed, and based on extensive field trials and the experience gained from them, the first rake of the Vande Bharat sleeper train is being launched.
While answering another question, the Minister highlighted that the design of the trains has been finalized by the Indian Railways, and the production of 10 such trains is underway.
Along with this, he highlighted that 50 Vande Bharat sleeper rakes are being carried out by the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai, and construction of 200 Vande Bharat sleeper rakes is being carried out by the technological partners, according to the original agreement. Further, he outlined that Kinet Railway Solutions Limited will be constructing 120 trains with 16 coaches.
