'Year-long celebrations of 50th Anniversary of India's victory over Pak and Independence of Bangladesh from January 14'

Swarnim Vijay Varsh Victory Flame' to be taken to 17 districts of Punjab, says Col. RS Mangat

Year-long celebrations to commemorate the 50th anniversary of India's victory over Pakistan and the independence of Bangladesh will be observed as 'Swarnim Vijay Varsh' by the Government of India. These celebrations have been inaugurated by Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi in New Delhi by lighting the 'Swarnim Vijay Mashal'.

Giving further information during a session 'Curtain Raiser: The 1971 War By Headquarter Western Command' in the 4th Military Literature Festival 2020, Col. R.S. Mangat said that commemorative celebrations would be held in Punjab throughout the year under 'Swarnim Vijay Varsh' and with the receiving of the Victory Flame of 'Swarnim Vijay Varsh' at Chandimandir on January 14, 2021, the celebrations would begin in the state.

Col. Mangat said that this Victory Flame would be taken to 17 districts in the state. All the programs have been decided and wherever the Victory Flame would go, the medal winners and valiant women, who showed bravery in the 1971 war, will be honored.

"Soil would also be collected from those places, where commemorative ceremonies would be held, and soil would further be used for planting saplings at the National War Memorial", he said, adding that apart from photo exhibitions, documentaries on the 1971 war would also be screened. He informed that band shows and marathons would be organized at various places in the state throughout the year, in which NCC Cadets will take part.

Col. Mangat said that the closing ceremony of these events would be held from December 3, 2021 to December 16, 2021 at New Delhi.
