*01 CRORE EXTORTION MONEY CASE SOLVED WITHIN 24 HOURS

*NEPHEW ATTEMPT TO EXTORT HIS UNCLE

In its drive to stop the illegal activities of anti-social elements, under the directions of DGP Punjab, Shri Gaurav Yadav, Pathankot Police have arrested one person for allegedly making extortion calls to a Pathankot based shopkeeper who runs ‘Singla Cotton West Store near Gridas Palace Gusaipur.

The 70-year-old victim is terrified after receiving an extortion call from an unknown number. He is absolutely petrified that he didn't know what to do, but he somehow mustered courage and filed a complaint at Police Station Shahpurkandi Pathankot.

Divulging more details to press, the senior superintendent of police(SSP) Pathankot, HarkamalPreet Singh Khakh said that the complainant Ram Lal son of Rattan Chand resident of New Garden Colony, Manwal Bhag, lodged a written complaint stating that an unknown person had been calling him from number a (8054560442), asking for Rs 01 crore and threatening him of dire consequences if he didn’t pay. The complainant also claimed that it could have been someone in his extended family. However, no money was handed over so far as in the case the accused and victim were known to each other.

The SSP added that on his statement a First Information Report (FIR) No. 105, dated 02/12/2022 was registered ,under Section 387 of the Indian Penal Code at Shahpurkandi police station, Pathankot.

Based on the complainant's information, the leads were further developed through technical analysis and digital footprints. When the past history of the given number is examined, it is discovered that as many as 07 calls were made from it to various people. This is where the police team zeroed in on the main accused, began the manhunt, and arrested him.

The arrested accused has been indentified as Dhurav son of Amit Aggarwal resident of C-40A, Near Khanpur Telephone Exchange, Police Station Shahpurkandi, Pathankot.

During preliminary interrogation, the accused said that he was aware that the victim was rich and could have heft sum of amount. Hence, he hatched a plan to extort the money from him. He threatened the victim via WhatsApp calls and messages that if he did not pay RS 01 Crore by the next day, he would kill him.

It has also come to light that the accused and victim (nephew and uncle) are intrinsically linked. The poor nephew made the extortion call to his uncle in order to make quick money.

SSP KHAKH added that the raids are being carried out in order to apprehend the man who provided the accused with a SIM card to make the extortion calls.

Giving a word of advice to the youths, SSP Khakh said, there is no short cut for money in life or illegal means by youths, if any one goes on this path that goes to the jail.
