In a late-night incident near Shri Guru Ravidas Chowk, around 12:45 am, a group of youths targeted the convoy of Minister Balakar Singh by throwing bricks at the pilot car. The situation escalated further when the minister arrived at his residence near Vadala Chowk, as the unruly youths followed him, causing a commotion outside his house. The incident caught the attention of Thana-6 police, who promptly arrived at the minister’s residence and apprehended three of the involved youths.

According to Minister Balakar Singh, while speaking to the media, he was returning home in his car around 12:45 am when his pilot car was followed by another vehicle near Shri Guru Ravidas Chowk. The driver of the car caused a disturbance by stopping the vehicles on the road, leading to an altercation. Amidst the chaos, one of the youths threw a brick at the pilot car.

The minister mentioned that he noticed the youth appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. Concerned about the situation, he decided to calm things down by heading towards his residence at Vadala Chowk. However, as soon as he entered his home, the same group of youths arrived outside, creating a ruckus and verbally abusing the security personnel. Subsequently, Minister Balakar Singh contacted Assistant District Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Aditya, prompting the police force to reach his residence. The police promptly detained three youths and took them to Thana-6 police station around 1:15 am for further investigation. Note the number detained youths have now reached to four.

Late-night investigations were underway regarding the incident.

What is the development in the case?

The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Jagmohan Singh, stated that Balakar Singh was not present in the convoy during the attack. The altercation occurred due to an argument between the driver of the escort vehicle and four youths traveling in another car, over overtaking. All four youths have been arrested in this case and a case has been registered against them. They were under the influence of drugs and had no intention of carrying out the attack. Three of the youths are from Jalandhar and one is from Kapurthala.
