Jalandhar: 'NRI' women break down in meeting with Baljit Kaur, narrate ordeal of immigration fraud by agents & more

On Monday, NRI women who were victims of immigration fraud by dubious immigration agents broke down during a meeting with Social Security, Women, and Child Development Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur in Jalandhar. Dr. Baljit Kaur held a meeting in order to address the grievances of NRI women who fell prey to immigration fraud. After listening to the ordeals of the victims, Dr. Baljit Kaur assured them that the Punjab State Government will come up with a policy so that women do not face such problems in the future. The purpose of the meeting was that some agents gave fake jobs and falsely sent the women of the state to foreign countries illegally. Therefore, efforts are being made by the Punjab Government to prepare a state-level policy to overcome such types of immigration fraud. Notably, thousands of Indian students mostly from Punjab are protesting against the Canadian authorities after 700 students were notified of deportation on the allegation of submitting fake admission letters.

During the meeting with the victims, Dr. Baljit Kaur listened to the tragedies of women who have suffered all kinds of exploitation and also assured them that their suggestions will be kept in mind when the State government formulates a policy to over immigration fraud.

During the meeting, a victim Neha told that her husband lives in Dubai and already divorced her, but still keeps an eye on her each step through an unknown person. While another victim Harman Preet Kaur stated that her husband left for Spain after 1.5 months of their marriage and never returned. Also, he and his family blocked her number. Now, she is waiting for justice. Another victim Amandeep Kaur complained that she was in a relationship with a guy for 13 years and after their marriage the man got indulged in domestic violence with her and ran to Italy. Next in the queue was Sarpreet Kaur, who wanted to go abroad before her marriage and applied for the same, but after the wedding, she refused to go abroad and asked for her money and documents back from the agents. Since then the agent is making excuses and not returning the money. They all are in the hope of things get better with the new upcoming policy of the government.

The minister explained that incidents of exploitation of women are reported especially from America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Middle Eastern countries like Kuwait, Dubai, Oman, etc. Kaur said that such bad behavior has been taken seriously by the State Government. She further added that it is the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to protect the rights of women of Punjab who are willing to go abroad, have settled there, or have returned. Special attention is being given by the Punjab Government to all suffered victims.
