1 Pak intruder killed in joint anti-narco-terrorism operation in Punjab; firearms, heroin seized

Around 14.8 kilograms of heroin, one magazine and six 9mm firearms cartridges were recovered near the body of the Pakistani intruder killed by the forces in Punjab's Tarn Taran district.

In a joint anti-narco-terrorism operation lead by Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Amritsar and Border Security Force (BSF) on the intervening night of February 12 and 13, a Pakistan national was killed on Saturday. The joint operation was taken out in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district.

Around 14.8 kilograms of heroin, one magazine and six 9mm firearms cartridges have been recovered from him and further enquiry is on. 

Suspicious activity movement was noticed by the BSP troops near the border fence around 2.30 am. The officers opened fire sensing some threat. 

The officials said that a search operation was carried out on Saturday morning and the body of a Pakistani trespasser was discovered. 

Fourteen packets of heroin, one pistol magazine, six rounds and two mobile phones were recovered from near the body, the official added.

The development comes a week after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested hawala operator from Amritsar in connection with a narco-terrorism case involving Hizbul Mujahideen. The NIA stated that the accused, identified as Manpreet Singh, had received heroin, drug rewards and weapons and transported them as part of a conspiracy. He was caught a day after the NIA seized Rs 20 lakh and 130 bullets in searches in Punjab's Amritsar and Gurdaspur in connection with a narco-terror case of Pakistan-based Hizbul Mujahideen.

The NIA spokesperson said that the hunts were carried at the premises of suspect Manpreet Singh of Amritsar, a close ally of charge-sheeted accused Ranjit Singh in association with the investigation of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) narco-terror case.
