To encourage education and see that no student is denied from getting better schooling in the state, Assam Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that Assam Government will be constructing nearly 119 schools across the state in tea gardens by April 2021.

The education minister while talking about the construction project on establishing schools in tea gardens in Assam informed that the administration will begin laying the foundation stones for the schools from Sunday.

Sarma said, "This is a revolutionary step as no government school under the state board has been established since the British rule. Most of the government schools in the state are nearly 100 years old."

The education minister also informed that during his previous tenure, sixteen government schools affiliated to CBSE board were built in the state.

Constructing schools is an initiative taken by the government to promote and encourage education in the state.

School Construction to be completed by April 2021

The construction of the schools in the tea gardens will be completed by Rongali Bihu in April but the inauguration will happen after the new government assumes charge as the Model Code of Conduct may be in force.

Election to the 126-member Assam Assembly is due in March-April next year.

Sarma pointed out that the construction of schools in tea gardens will help in reducing the dropout rates of students in Assam.

Sarma, who also acts as the health minister of the state, said that the Medical Council of India (MCI) has permitted admission in Diphu Medical College and Hospital which would assist in the increase of more than 100 medical seats in the state.

Responding to Rajya Sabha MP and state Congress chief Ripun Bora's allegation that the budget plans have not been implemented, Sarma said he is ready to show the list of implemented projects with proof. "The number of medical seats in the state will increase to 1,000. It was 350 when I had first taken charge as the health minister," he added.
