13-year-old girl vomits blood and dies in Chennai, family alleges she had cold drink from local shop

In Chennai, 13 years old girl died soon after consuming cold drinks from the local grocery shop.

A 13-year-old girl died allegedly after drinking cold drinks from the local grocery shop in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. This incident took place in the Besant Nagar area of Chennai on Tuesday evening. 

The demised girl is identified as Tharani. She had gone to a local grocery shop to buy cold drinks and soon after she consumed them she started vomiting blood. After this, Tharani’s elder sister called their parents and she was rushed to the hospital.

By the time they reached the hospital, the body started turning blue and the girl was declared dead at the hospital. The police have sent the body for the post-mortem. 

The residents of Besant Nagar have demanded the probe by the officials from the Food and Safety Department. 

The food and safety department officials, on Wednesday, have ordered to close the cold drink manufacturing unit in Sholavaram, Chennai. The manufacturing unit would remain closed till the further orders by the food and safety department.

The officials have sealed nearly 540 bottles of the cold drink from the same batch. Till the time police officials reached the manufacturing units 17 bottles were already sold therefore police would check the quality of products sold in the neighborhood areas.

Police said that the girl was suffering from asthma and was advised not to consume aerated drinks. 

The body was sent to the Government Royapettah Hospital for post-mortem and as per the reports the cause of the death was drink entered her respiratory system. 

The investigation in the case is undergoing and the batch of cold drinks has been sent to the forensic test. The officials of the manufacturing unit would be questioned by the police soon.
