'1988 road rage case': Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu to be released from Patiala Jail tomorrow

In a major development, Congress Navjot Singh Sidhu will be released from Patiala Jail on April 1, 2023. As per reports, Navjot Singh Sidhu will be prematurely released for his good conduct. Sidhu has been in jail since May 20 last year after the Supreme Court convicted him in a 1988 road rage case, imposing a one-year jail term. Sidhu is getting a 45-day remission. His scheduled release from jail was on May 16. Notably, Sidhu, on May 20, 2022, had surrendered before the Patiala chief judicial magistrate (CJM) to serve the one-year prison term handed out to him by the Supreme Court in a 1988 road rage case.

The release of Navjot Sidhu comes at a time when there is crackdown going on against Amritpal Singh in Punjab. And his release is also expected to have an impact on the political dynamics of Punjab. Sidhu is considered a close confidant of the Gandhi family. As per reports, Sidhu didn’t meet the PPCC chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, former deputy CM Sukhjinder Randhawa and others when they visited him in Patiala jail.
