2 dead due to H3N2 Influenza virus in India: know its symptoms, treatment, do’s & don’ts

The Union Health Ministry on Friday confirmed that 2 people have died due to the H3N2 virus of seasonal influenza. The first death was reported in Karnataka while the second happened in Haryana. While the first person was 82-year-old, the person who died in Haryana was a 52-year-old and was suffering from liver cancer. The data from the Integrated Disease Surveillance Project suggests that till now 3,038 cases of this type have been reported in India.

What is H3N2 Influenza Virus?

H3N2 is a type of virus that leads to respiratory infections. While the Influenza virus can spread to mammals and birds, its sub-type H3N2 leads to infection in humans. As per the Centres for Disease Control (CDC) and World health Organization (WHO) it is one of the fastest spreading viruses and seasonally comes into play globally.

How does the virus transmission take place?

H3N2 influenza virus is extremely contagious and spreads from one person to another through droplets released by coughing and sneezing. Apart from this, if a person touches mouth, nose of an infected person then that person can also catch the virus.

Who are at higher risk of getting infection?

The H3N2 virus normally can spread to any person of any age group but Pregnant women, young children, elderly adults and people suffering from diseases are at higher risk of this.

Symptoms of H2N2 Influenza Virus

According to WHO, H3N2 virus’s symptoms can range from mild cough to highly-risky pneumonia. Apart from this some common symptoms include chills, coughing, fever, nausea, vomiting, throat ache, sore throat, ache in muscles and body, diarrhoea, sneezing and runny nose.

Precaution you must take for protection from virus

Firstly, keep checking the oxygen level continuously from Pulse Oximeter. Next, never go for self-medication. If your oxygen level decreases from 95% then immediately see a doctor and take proper medication.

Treatment for H3N2 virus

If you are the one suffering from H3N2 virus, then take proper rest, medicines prescribed by the doctor. In such virus infection drinking lots of fluids and fruits help to fight the infection. As per WHO further says neuraminidase inhibitors could be used if infected with the virus.
