Jalandhar, February 3- As many as 226 candidates have filed their nomination papers on the last day of nominations for the municipal elections in the district on Wednesday.
Divulging the details, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said that 226 nominations including 36 in Adampur Municipal Council, 18 in Alawalpur Municipal Council, 13 in Kartarpur, 69 in Nakodar, 50 in Nurmahal, 7 in Phillaur, 7 in Lothian Khas and 26 in Mehatpur Nagar Panchayat where elections scheduled to be held on February 14, 2021.
He said that total 593 candidates have filed nominations for the elections in 110 wards of six Municipal Councils and two Nagar Panchayats.
The deputy commissioner said that on the first day for the nominations a total of eight candidates had filed nominations 61 on second day,298 on third and 226 on last day.
He said that the scrutiny would take place on February 4 and candidates can withdraw their papers by February 5, 2021.
The elections were scheduled to be held on February 14, and the result to be declared on February 17, 2021, as per the schedule, he added.
