Jalandhar, February 3- As many as 226 candidates have filedtheir nomination papers on the last day of nominations for the municipalelections in the district on Wednesday.
Divulging the details, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori saidthat 226 nominations including 36 in Adampur Municipal Council, 18 in AlawalpurMunicipal Council, 13 in Kartarpur, 69 in Nakodar, 50 in Nurmahal, 7 inPhillaur, 7 in Lothian Khas and 26 in Mehatpur Nagar Panchayat where electionsscheduled to be held on February 14, 2021.
He said that total 593 candidates have filed nominationsfor the elections in 110 wards of six Municipal Councils and two NagarPanchayats.
The deputy commissioner said that on the first day for thenominations a total of eight candidates had filed nominations 61 on secondday,298 on third and 226 on last day.
He said that the scrutiny would take place on February 4and candidates can withdraw their papers by February 5, 2021.
The elections were scheduled to be held on February 14, andthe result to be declared on February 17, 2021, as per the schedule, he added.
