In a well-planned move the IT officials launched raid on the suspects of evading tax, seized property worth 100 crores

A team of the Income Tax department disguised itself as baraatis launched a well-planned raid at Maharashtra’s Jalna in August’s first week. In all pre-planned moves, the officials proceeded towards Jalna in 120 vehicles with the posters showing ‘Rahul eds Anjali’ and ‘Dulhan hum le Jayenge.’

On the radar of the department were two business groups dealing in steel, clothing, and real estate on the grounds of tax evasion. The teams conducted raids at the premises, warehouses, and farmhouses.

The raid was on for a week led by the detection and investigation wing of the IT department of Nashik's office and involved over 250 members from the Nashik, Pune, Nagpur, Aurangabad, and Mumbai units, an official from Nashik informed the media while opening about the incident on the condition of anonymity.

All the vehicles left for the spot separately in order to ensure no one gets alerted about the raid.

Another official informed, “Once the search started, no one was allowed to move in or out of the factories, residences, offices, and farmhouse premises that were searched, in fact, there were 70 trucks at the manufacturing unites in Jalna which were in the process of loading or unloading consignments and all this activity was stopped till the entire search process was over."

The raids were conducted over a stretch of a week from 1-8 August. Rs 100 crore of Benami property, comprising Rs 56 crore in cash, and 32 KGs of gold, diamonds, and property papers were found from the premises. As per various media reports, it took officials around 13 hours to count the seized cash.
