Kathmandu: At least 28 people lost their lives and around 400 others have been injured when a storm destroyed villages in two of the districts of Nepal on Sunday evening. The authorities had informed that a strong rainstorm has swept through southern Nepal devastating homes felling trees and claiming the lives of around 28 people and leaving around 400 injured.

Sources have said that many of those killed were asleep in simple huts on Sunday night when powerful winds sent deadly debris flying through the air. District named Bara which is near the Indian border suffered most damage and casualties. Another district named Parsa were also struck by high-speed wind and lightning.

Nepali Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli tweeted, “I am deeply saddened to learn this tragedy. I pay tribute to those killed in the incident and express deep condolences to the bereaved families."

He also said that the government has deployed security personnel to carry out rescue operations in the storm-hit areas. The Nepal Army and the national police have been mobilized to Bara and neighboring Parsa District.
