3-judge committee to investigate charge against Chief Justice of India

A board of three Supreme Court judges headed by Justice SA Bobde will investigate into a dismissed junior court assistant's allegation of sexual harassment against CJI Ranjan Gogoi

New Delhi: The first ever probe in 69-years old history of Supreme Court of India, that a sexual harassment complaint against the head of the judiciary would be inquired into by a panel of three SC judges.  

In a precedent-setting decision, a board of three Supreme Court judges headed by Justice SA Bobde will investigate into a dismissed junior court assistant's allegation of sexual harassment against CJI Ranjan Gogoi who has refused them strongly and suggested that a bigger force was behind the charges.

The bench will include Justices NV Ramana and Indira Banerjee. Justice SA Bobde led panel on Tuesday issued notices to the complainant and SC secretary general Sanjeev Kalgaonkar and asked them to be present before it on Friday, the first hearing on the petitioner.

Justice Bobde is also the successor of the current CJI Ranjan Gogoi, he will be taking office of Chief Justice of India on November 18.  While Justice Ramana will become Chief Justice of India on April 24, 2021.
