3 years imprisonment to three police officers involved in the 1992 Surjit Singh kidnapping case

On May 7, 1992, Surjit Singh was abducted by the police from village Bhorsi Rajputan. It was later said that a pistol was recovered from him at a checkpoint showing his arrest on 8th May. Then the police said that the accused escaped from police custody.

Surjit Singh's wife filed a petition in the High Court on this matter, after which the High Court ordered a CBI investigation in 2003. In the CBI investigation, 9 police officers were found guilty and a case was registered against them. A charge sheet was filed in this case.

Today, the verdict came in the CBI court in Mohali, in which three police officers, retired IPS officer Balkar Singh, former inspector Udham Singh and current sub-inspector Saab Singh have been found guilty. All of them have been sentenced to three years imprisonment.
