35-kg gold donation brings golden ceiling and door to idol of Siddhivinayak Temple

Siddhivinayak, considered one of the richest temples in the country, has received a donation of 35-kilogram of gold.

The donation was made last week which would have cost Rs 14 crore approximately. The devotees of Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai give away crores in donation every year. While some give donations in the form of cash, others give gold, silver or precious gems.

According to temple trust, the latest donation of 35 kg gold was made by one person. Adesh Bandekar, chairperson of Siddhivinayak Temple Trust confirmed the news, however, refused to give the name of the devotee. He also said that the gold was used to make the door and ceiling of the temple.

This gold plating was done while the temple was closed for the annual scheduled programme between January 15 and 19. During this time, the idol is coloured in saffron and "pran pratishta" is performed.

Till 2017, the temple had received Rs 320 crore worth of donation which was used for social work. This donation amount has now reached Rs 410 crore. "Through this fund, we will continue to help people who knock on the doors of the temple. We have helped 20,000 people until now who get help up to Rs 25,000. We have spent Rs 38 crores on this until now," Bandekar added.
