4 army soldiers wounded in grenade attack in Kashmir’s Kulgam

The injured jawans were immediately given first aid locally and evacuated to a nearby hospital for treatment.

In a grenade attack, about four Army soldiers were injured in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Wednesday. Grenades were pelted on the road opening party of the Indian Army during a sanitisation drill on a highway in Shamsipora village of the district at around 10 am.

The injured jawans were immediately given first aid locally and evacuated to a nearby hospital for treatment.

"Terrorists lobbed grenade on Army's Road Opening Party during the sanitisation drill at 1015 hours today in general area Shamshipura, Khanabal, Kulgam. Four soldiers sustained splinter injuries. Provided first aid and have been evacuated to 92 Base Hospital," Colonel Rajesh Kalia, the Army's spokesperson said.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police last month had said that there has been a sharp decrease in terrorist incidents and activities, infiltration and civilian killings in 2020 in the area.

Director-General of Police Dilbag Singh, during an annual press conference, stated that over a 100 counter-terrorism operations were successfully held by Indian security forces in 2020. In those counter-terrorism operations, 225 terrorists were killed. “We undertook over 100 successful operations in J&K. Ninety operations took place in Kashmir and 13 in Jammu. As many as 225 terrorists were killed — 207 in Kashmir and 18 in Jammu division,” Mr Singh was quoted by news agency PTI. 

The Director-General also informed that 16 Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel, 15 in Kashmir and one in Jammu and 44 security forces jawans  42 in Kashmir and two in Jammu died while fighting terrorism last year.
