In a big provocation, up to 500 drones were sent by the Pakistan Army last night towards Indian posts, with sightings reported from 24 points ranging from Siachen base camp in Ladakh to Kutch in Gujarat, including many locations in Punjab.
Defense officials said that about 50 of the drones were destroyed by air defense guns, and around 20 were downed through soft-kill technology such as jamming of signals. The majority of the drones were not armed but equipped with cameras and are presumed to have been sending live images to Pakistani ground stations.
The Indian air defense systems effectively eliminated virtually all drones that threatened infrastructure," the sources further added.
The operation is a noteworthy escalation of attempts at cross-border surveillance by Pakistan. Security forces are still on their toes along the affected states, including Punjab, as further evaluation goes on.
