In times when the world is struggling due to the pandemic and people losing jobs, about 3 in 5 (62%) Indian professionals are willing to start their careers. As the unemployment rate is increasing, India’s hiring rate is growing by 12%, but competition for jobs is 30% higher than last year.
According to LinkedIn’s Workforce Confidence Index findings, professionals from recreation and travel, retail, and corporate services are more inclined to look for jobs outside their current industry.
Professionals in the recreation and travel sector are 3.8 times more likely to switch to new fields, whereas professionals in retail are 1.5 times more and those in corporate services are 1.4 times more willing to switch jobs outside their current sectors.
Increase in demand for tech-related jobs
The findings assessment says that the trained network in the next five years will see 150 million more technology-based jobs globally, seeing a continuous rise in demand for digital skills.
The professional network’s Top 5 In-Demand Jobs list for India is dominated by tech-led roles with software engineers topping the list, followed by the application developers, full-stack engineers, system analysts, and business analysts.
Python is India’s fastest growing tech skill
Python (programming language) has appeared as one of the fastest-growing skills added by professionals to their profiles, which increases the chance of being discovered by recruiters 27 times. This is followed by Machine Learning, Data Structures, Digital Marketing, and HTML 5.
All findings around the Indian professionals’ willingness to kickstart their careers are based on the online survey responses of 2,014 professionals from the weeks of September 7 - October 4, as part of the LinkedIn Workforce Confidence Index, which is a fortnightly pulse on the confidence of the Indian workforce.
New tools built to help job-seekers find suitable job
To help unemployed professionals find work, the professional network has come up with new tools and resources. Their new ‘Career Explorer’ tool helps job-seekers spot new career directions where most required skills meet with their current roles.
The #Hiring frame enables hiring managers to share that they are employing right from their profiles, which makes job-seekers access job openings in their feed; direct and open.

To help members prepare for evolving and latest technology roles, the platform has also added a tool named ‘Skills Assessments’, which is based on trending skills for members to showcase their abilities.
