The recipients of the 67th National Film Awards were announced today, March 22, after a nearly one-year break due to the current pandemic. Kangana Ranaut received the National Award for Best Actress in the categories of Panga and Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi. For their films, Bhonsle and Asuran, Manoj Bajpayee, and Dhanush received the Best Actor Award. The winners' names were unveiled at a press conference held at the National Media Centre in New Delhi.

Manoj Bajpayee played a former Mumbai police officer in Bhonsle, which was written and directed by Devashish Makhija. For his role in the film, the actor earned a National Award. Other than this, He received two National Fim Awards for the movie Satya in 1999 and Movie Pinjar in 2002. Devashish Makhija wrote and directed Bhonsle, a 2020 Indian Hindi-language drama film. Manoj Bajpayee, who co-produced the film with Piyush Singh, plays the title character, a retired Mumbai police officer who befriends a North Indian girl and her brother, who is being harassed by local politicians along with other migrants. The film's first trailer premiered at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival.


Dhanush won the National Award for Best Actor in a Tamil Film for his role in Asuran. Asuran, directed by Vetrimaaran, is based on Poomani's novel Vekkai. Manju Warrier, Ken Karunas, Prakash Raj, and Pasupathy also play important roles in the film.Asuran (translated as Demon) is a Tamil-language period adventure film written and directed by Vetrimaaran and produced by Kalaipuli S. Thanu. Poomani's novel Vekkai is the inspiration for the film. Dhanush and Manju Warrier star in the film, with the latter making her Tamil debut. G. V. Prakash Kumar composed the film's soundtrack, continuing his relationship with Vetrimaaran.


Every year on May 3, the National Film Awards ceremony takes place. The ceremony was postponed for almost a year due to the ensuing pandemic.
