
To strengthen the state’s battle against the Covidpandemic, the Punjab government has decided to convert the vacant promotionquota posts of super specialty doctors in the Government Medical Colleges ofPatiala and Amritsar to direct recruitment quota.
The decision was taken on Monday by the Cabinet, led byChief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, which also approved filling up of such80 posts of super specialty doctors, including those already lying vacant indifferent departments of these colleges, through the Dr. KK Talwar Committee,by taking out all these posts from the purview of Punjab Public ServiceCommission.
Besides effectively combating the possible third wave ofCovid-19 pandemic in the state, the move will extend more super specialtyhealth care facilities to the people.
CABINET OKAYS CREATION OF SUPPORTING STAFF POSTS INVIGILANCE COMMISSION
To furtherstrengthen the functioning of Punjab State Vigilance Commission (PSVC), theCabinet on Monday gave approval for the creation of various posts in thecommission. These include; one each of Registrar, Joint Registrar, UnderSecretary, Superintendent, Private Secretary, Reader, Junior ScaleStenographer/Steno-typist and Steno-typist, two posts each of Senior Assistant,Clerk and Clerk-cum-Data Entry Operator besides three posts of PersonalAssistant.
The staff would be hired on re-employment, basis only forthe period co-terminus with the tenure of State Chief Vigilance Commissioner.
The Punjab State Vigilance Commission was constitutedunder the Punjab State Vigilance Commission Act, 2020, in addition to theexisting anti-corruption agency, called the Vigilance Bureau, to tackle the problem of corruption. The need wasfelt for establishment of an independent body to exercise more effectivesuperintendence over the working of Vigilance Bureau and all departments of theState Government.
Under the provisions of the Act, Justice Mehtab SinghGill (Retd.) has been appointed as the State Chief Vigilance Commissioner andhe has taken over the charge on April 4, 2021.
