BSP tops the list with Rs 670 crores in terms of bank balance: EC reports

New Delhi: With the onset of 2019 lok sabha elections, the Election Commission (EC) report of expenditure submitted by different political parties reveals that Mayawati Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has the biggest bank balance among all parties.The expenditure report was submitted on February 25 to the EC.  The report stated that it has Rs 669 crore deposited in eight accounts in branches.

The second political party which is chasing the BSP is its ally Samajwadi Party (SP). SP total bank balance remains 471 crore, while 95.54 lakh as cash in hand.
The expenditure report is based on details of the central funds of parties.

However, the Indian National Congress (INC) is still to submit its recent expenditure reports. Although according to report submitted in November, the INC rest on third spot with Rs. 196 crore.

While the BJP remains on 5th spot with 82 crores. Although, BJP had earned a whopping amount of Rs. 1027 crore through contributions in 2017-18. The party has claimed to spend Rs 758 crore.

According to analysis of income tax returns, 87% of the income of these parties is through voluntary contributions, with BJP being the only one to have shown a gain of Rs. 210 crore through electoral bonds in 2017-18.

The Supreme Court (SC) has already directed the political parties to  provide receipts of electoral bonds and details of identity of donors in a sealer cover to the Election Commission by May 30.
