Trichy: Post two days of ‘Hindu Terrorist’ remark by the Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) president Kamal Haasan, the Aravakurichi police in Karur district of Tamil Nadu registered a case against him on Tuesday.
Kamal Haasan lit the controversy when he termed Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse as a ‘Hindu Terrorism’.
On the complaint of KV Ramakrishnan, secretary of Hindu Munnani district, the police registered the case against Kamal under two IPC sections. The case has been registered under sections 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion) and 295A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings).
As by-election of Aravukurichi assembly segment is scheduled to be held on May 19, Karur SP- V Vikraman, cautioned that severe actions would be taken against people provoking violence on grounds of religion and language.
The actor turned politician while campaigning near Anna Nagar junction for his party candidate S Mohanraj on Sunday night, said, “Independent India’s first terrorist was a Hindu. His name was Nathuram Godse.”
